Diet

Frozen Farms Co is owned by the McParlan family, who also operate the St John's Creek Farm, where most of the beef and all of the lamb sold at Frozen Farms Co are raised. Our current supplier of pork is Smith Creek Farm. Additional beef, pork, and lamb may come from other trusted local producers who share our standards for animal care and quality.

Our beef herds are primarily Angus, along with Simmental and Hereford, breeds well suited to our northern climate and known for producing flavorful, high-quality beef. Our sheep — Dorper, Katahdin, and Shropshire — are selected for their ability to thrive on mixed northern grass pastures.

Animal Care

Animal welfare is central to everything we do. We prioritize calm, low-stress handling and never use growth hormones or implants. Antibiotics are used only rarely, when necessary to treat injury.

We do not currently offer custom cuts
or whole, half
or quarters.

Our animals are pasture-raised using rotational grazing from spring through late fall, supporting soil health and land sustainability. During winter months, they continue living outdoors with access to hay in the pastures.

Beef steers are grain-finished for a short period to ensure consistent tenderness and flavor — a necessary step given our short growing season — while lambs are often finished with little to no grain.

Processing

All beef and lamb are processed at Rainbow Packing in Escanaba, Michigan, the closest USDA-inspected facility, where the meat is carefully aged, cut, labeled for traceability, and vacuum-sealed for freshness.

Our beef and lamb is dry aged for at least 7 days to improve tenderness and flavor. Meat is then butchered into individual cuts and reaches the freezer within 90 minutes. We store our meat in commerical freezer units held at -5 degrees farenheit.
